Module 03

Professional statement

I am Scientific Director of the Heart Spark Research & Innovation Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit research organization advancing cardiovascular research, innovation, education, and health equity, and Clinical Associate Professor at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Previously, I served as the inaugural Director of Cardio-Oncology at Froedtert Hospital and the Milwaukee VA Medical Center and as Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. My research integrates cardiovascular medicine, oncology, clinical informatics, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, and health equity to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. I established an interdisciplinary cardio-oncology research program bringing together clinicians, informaticians, biostatisticians, engineers, implementation scientists, trainees, and community stakeholders to develop and evaluate patient-centered strategies for cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention. My federally funded research has emphasized real-world clinical data, electronic health records, stakeholder-engaged collaboration, and the reduction of disparities in care. These experiences position me to successfully lead and execute PCORI-funded comparative clinical effectiveness research designed to improve patient-centered outcomes.
