Separate voluntary decision
Ordinary Site access, professional intake, group membership, educational activity, and scholarly collaboration remain separate from research participation. A research invitation identifies the study, sponsor, investigator, purpose, procedures, duration, risks, benefits, privacy practices, contacts, and applicable review status.
Review and authorization
Human-subjects research begins after the applicable institutional, ethics, privacy, regulatory, legal, contractual, and data-use requirements are satisfied. Additional authorization may be required for identifiable information, recordings, biospecimens, clinical records, international transfer, secondary use, and future research.
Consent
Informed consent is activity-specific, understandable, accessible, and documented through the approved pathway. Consent explains voluntary choice, alternatives, foreseeable risks and benefits, compensation or costs when applicable, confidentiality limits, contact routes, and the handling of new information.
Withdrawal
The research-specific process explains how to withdraw, the effect on future activity, the handling of information already analyzed or de-identified, record-preservation duties, scientific-integrity limits, and any legal or contractual requirements.
Data stewardship
Protected health information, identifiable patient or research-participant information, confidential datasets, authentication secrets, restricted manuscript text, export-controlled information, proprietary third-party material, and information supplied without adequate authority remain within separately approved secure systems and processes.
The approved protocol and data plan identify the data controller, authorized recipients, minimum necessary fields, secure environment, retention, deletion or de-identification, re-identification safeguards, breach response, and publication pathway.
Identity and publicity
Participant and institution names, photographs, quotations, testimonials, recordings, logos, and identifiable stories require the permission appropriate to that use. Permission for a directory biography remains distinct from research consent and from permission for publication in a research product.
Authorship and publications
Authorship follows project-specific contribution evidence, accepted scholarly standards, author accountability, conflict review, and written decisions. Publications may use authorized aggregated or de-identified findings. Identifiable publication requires the applicable additional authorization.
Operational Site records
Inquiries, profile intakes, lab-hub intakes, consent records, security logs, and operational audit events support administration and governance. Research use of these records requires a distinct protocol, appropriate review, and separate consent when required.
Research contact
Study-specific questions follow the contact listed in the applicable consent form. General Brown Virtual Lab governance questions may be sent to connect@drbrowncares.com.
